In 2015 I issued a social media request for gold foil candy wrappers. Loads of people mailed gold foil to my studio. Now, I am collaging that foil on large canvases and constructing a series in candy wrappers and oils. The pieces explore the subtle and sacred nature of brief, transcendent moments in the human experience. Smaller works depict triggers for these moments in simple scenes of memory, landscape, and domestic still-life. Larger works mingle magazine ad figures, nature, and religious iconography. They speak to the conflicting tug between the secular and the desire for more than we can understand. The series is on track for completion summer 2016.
